Battishill Scholarship

From this page you can access Chris's article (published in Organists's Review) about Jonathan Battishill's anthem O Lord, look down from Heaven.  In this article, Chris argues that the two treble parts of bars 38-41 are incorrect in the earliest extant source (published after the composer's death) and, in consequence, they have been given incorrectly in the subsequent published editions.  The article is a 'must read' for all those who perform this great piece!

You can also download Chris's new edition of O Lord, look down from Heaven.  Based on close study of the earliest extant source, it corrects numerous misreadings in the two editions in general circulation and, as per Chris's Organists' Review article, this edition also 'corrects' the treble parts in bars 38-41.

This new edition received its first performance at the Giltspurs Singers Christmas Concert at St Clement Danes, Strand, London, Tuesday 17th December 2013.

Also available is Chris's edition of 'MEMOIRS of the late Mr. JONATHAN BATTISHILL', a biographical tribute to the composer by Dr Busby,  included in the publication that is the earliest extant source of O Lord, look down from Heaven.
