Chris is a highly experienced teacher who has taught music privately, in schools and in Higher Education.
Between 1993 and 2000, Chris lectured at Cardiff University in the Department of Music, teaching a range of subjects that included history & analysis of music, historical performance practice, C18th harmony & counterpoint, aural perception, choral conducting and orchestral conducting. He also gave courses in the Department for Continuing Education. He lectured at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama from 1996-2000, teaching subjects such as history & analysis of music, C16th counterpoint, C18th harmony & counterpoint, fugue, aural perception, and keyboard harmony. In addition he supervised dissertations at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Chris also taught in the Junior Department of the RWCMD and taught A-level music as part of the College's mission to support local schools. Chris tutored on Open University Music Summer Schools between 1996 and their termination in 2010.
Having gained a PGCE in Secondary Music at the Institute of Education of the University of London (2000-2001), Chris taught in London schools. His various roles included Head of Music, Gifted & Talented Students Coordinator, Head of Performing Arts, Deputy Headteacher and Headteacher. He has extensive experience of training other teachers and has appeared on Teachers' TV. He holds two Certificates in the Advanced Professional Practice of Education (with Distinction) from Oxford Brookes University, and the NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship). He was among the first people to be awarded Chartered London Teacher Status and is a Fellow of the College of Teachers. His submissions for CLTS and FCOT were published on the web by the London Centre for Leadership in Learning (IoE) as models for other candidates to follow.
Chris is currently a diploma examiner for the Guild of Church Musicians, a tutor and assessor for the National Professional Qualifications for School Leaders, an examiner for the ABRSM, and a Member of Teaching Staff at Junior Trinity.
